The Era Of The Renaissance Era - 1798 Words

The renaissance era came by its name quite easily as it literally means rebirth. This era was a transitional period from the intellectually dark middle ages and ushered in a new wave of thinking and explorations. During Da Vinci s life, the world experienced the fall of Constantinople to the Turks in 1453 and Christopher Columbus s voyage to the new world in 1492. England experienced its own civil war in 1455, Cairo fell to the Ottomans in 1517 and Martin Luther nailed his 95 theses to the church doors at Wittenberg effectively changing the religious practices of northern Europe. The dawn of an enlightened modern age was upon us. Da Vinci was a proverbial Renaissance Man. His skills and talents extended far beyond that of an artist. More than a painter and sculptor, he was a writer, mathematician, and inventor. He was such a forward thinker that he envisioned revolutionary ideas such as a flying machine more than 400 years before the Wright Brothers famous flight at Kitty Hawk. Hi s art is perhaps some of the most well known and beloved work in the world. Da Vinci was born on April 15, 1452 in Vinci, Italy. The love child of a respected Notary and a young peasant woman, he was raised by his father and step mother. At fourteen, Da Vinci began apprenticing under Verrocchio and learned from him for six years developing his skills and an unquenchable curiosity.
